17Cal Dewey Rod

Hey, going to get me a good cleaning rod for my 204ruger. I am using a outers rod now, that is way too tight. If I got a 17 cal rod, would it be fine for a 22 also? Are they stiff enough. Figured I could get away with one for all my small calibers

Bigcountry, I’m also looking at getting Dewey 17 Cal, just waiting for our local sporting good store to get there shipment. The only concern I have is they come at 36” long and I find it to be very long for such a small diameter rod. Hopefully it will be stiff enough as you mentioned. I guess I’ll have to test it out when I get it.

Hi BC & trailer:

I use the Dewey 36" .17 for my .204 and it works like a charm. I have a Ruger Compact, with a 20" barrel. I have not had any problems with flexibility. I ordered mine from Midway, and it came with a jag taped to the rod that has to be .20, I can't imagine you could fit the included jag through a .17 with a patch on it. It is the only one-piece rod I could find, but works very well. The only problem I have had is cutting patches small enough to fit down the bore. The best results I have had were from Tipton .35 cal/20 guage patches cut into quarters.

Good luck.

P.S. I don't think the Dewey rod would work for .22. The threads for the jags are not compatible. You might be able to fit a "loop" tip for .17 and use a larger patch, but that wouldn't be my choice.

Dewey,
It should do just fine.
You won't be pushing it to hard anyway.

Here is the newest 17 cal.
