RE: Nosler partitions vs Nosler Solid Base Boat Tail

I have never loaded this Solid base from Nosler. Did they bring it back? Kinda surprised they would do this move. It would compete with the ballistic tips. Is there any reason they brought this bullet back in market? Looks to have a bad BC.

BC, best guess to compete with Seirra in the gameking department but I dunno.

Thanks everyone, I'll pick up a box of partitions and see which round the gun prefers and go from there. Almost too many good bullet choices nowadays, its like shopping in WalMart! Good to hear alot of happy shooters using BTs.

BigCountry--yes, they just brought back the solid base boat tail.

Dunc2, I've used Nosler SBBT in my .270 exclusively for about 15 years now. I tried Partitions but they didn't group near as well as the SBs. And for deer and black bear, they are devastating. The only thing that comes close to shooting as well in my 270 is the Speer 130 gr SPBT.
I've been trying to find a good load for my 7-08 also. I would appreciate it if you would let me know how the solid bases shoot for you. So far in my 7-08 I tries Rem core-lokts 150 gr. and Hornady 139 gr. The 150s show some promise. If the SBBTs work for you, I may give them a try.
Its funny how each rifle likes a particular load, but that's what makes reloading fun.
I've been loading now for almost 40 years and I'm getting pretty good at finding a "starting" load then fine tuning it. It seems over the years that for my rifles I can probably get by with only 2 powders. IMR4350 and IMR4064,

ORIGINAL: DUNC2 For my new 7mm-08. Federal loads these two bullets in their 140 gr. premium line. I also have a box of win ballistic silvertips but am interested in a bullet that won't explode. I hear the sbbt is more accurate than the partitions. Any help is appreciated. Shooting smaller whitetails in texas.

This is not a comparison situation, since these two bullet designs are not in the same class. For small deer in TEXAS (WHICH YOU FORGOT TO CAPITALIZE!!) use the SBBT's. You could use the Partitions, but their superior performance is NOT required for shooting deer! Save the Partitions for elk, moose & bears!

Yes, they did bring it back. Seems some of us old boys just really missed them.....

Eldequello evidently a lot of people missed it since they did bring it back. One of the great game bullets ever produced.
