I have a mossberg 500 with a fully rifled slug barrel with rifle sights and porting and its shoots really well and it definatly wont break the bank

Look into the H&R slug guns. They definately won't bite too badly into the budget. www.hr1871.com

I have many slug guns. For the money I would go with a Mossberg 500 combo, it comes with a rifled barrel thats ported, and cantilever mount so you can put a scope on it, it has NO iron sights, also it comes with either a 26" or 28" vent rib with a few chokes!!! I would say that today it sells for just under $400, I paid if can remember about $325 years ago. This gun is very good, and a great value. You may also look into the Remington 870 line, they have many different set ups for this model. Whatever shotgun you get, you have to try different slugs, but with that said I find that the Lightfield EXP slugs work perfect with every slug gun I have thats rifled including my few Mossbergs, Ithaca and Remingtons. Scope well thats a choice you need to make, I have Bushnell Trophy seris 1.5X5 on a few slug guns, and on my Remington 11-87 I have a Leupold VX-II 3-9X40. Good Luck!!!!

I built my own by cutting off the barrel of an old Stevens bolt action shotgun (to 19 inches) and adding iron sights. It turns out to be a superbly accurate slug gun and is dirt cheap as well as easy to carry and very light.....

im with Friz, NEF slug (rifled, iron sights) about 125.00 at walmart, or the H&R Ultra slug hunter (heavy barrel, cantalever scope mount, swivels, rifled) for around 200.00

i bought the ultra slug .20 ga this spring. nice grouping with lightfield slugs, fun to shoot

My mossberg has iron sites and no scope mount but you can get them either way

BassMan I've got a Marlin 512 Slugmaster or a Mossberg 500 combo, I'd sell either reasonible. The combo comes with a couple extra chokes.

RE: Slug Gun

Go with the H&R... I LOVE mine and I am not one who ussually goes the cheap route. I have the 20 gauge with a bull barrel, I took my first dear with it a couple of years back at over 125 yards... I have a mossberg 500 for Turkey as well as an Remington, I think these guns are great, but for a slug gun I would go with the H&R. Unless you have a lot of money burning a whole in your pocket than look at the Browning A-bolt (I have been tempted by this gun many a time).

One other thing, If you are getting a slug gun simply because you can't shoot rifle in your state, why not consider hunting with a muzzleloader, my TC Omega probably has even better range than my shotgun, you could even look at the new savages which can go out to 300 yards...
