25-06 bullets

I have a savage 111 in 25-06 and savage say's that it has a 1 in 10 twist what bullet weights will work the best in this round i have tried 120 gr 90 gr and have just gotten some 85 gr but have yet to try them. the best group so far is 1.5" at 100 yrds. All of my other savages will touch bullets at 100 yrds and i expect this one to do the same when i find the proper bullet weight. I see that alot of ammo company's have 117 gr listed and that is the only weight that hornady offers is this the prefered weight. i would like a load for groundhogs and one for deer. thanx for the help... jimbob

Hey Jimbob. I use 115 gr Ballistic Silvertips in my .25-06 on deer. For antelope I like 100 gr Ballistic Tips or sometimes even 85 gr Ballistic Tips. Regardless, in my rifle the Ballistic Tips shoot the best and I have shot just about all there is on the market today.

I like 87gr TNT for chucks and 120gr Hornandy for deer. If your not a reloader bullet choice is a lot smaller...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Go with the heaviest bulllets.

ive never shot a 35-06 but that twist rate sounds fast so i would reccomend trying to use the heaviest bullets you can find

Thanx for the info i guesss it's just a matter of finding what bullets this gun likes and there is no magical bullet weight. Thanx again...jimbob

Any .257&quot; bullet up to at least 120 grains should stabilize in your 1/10&quot; twist. I used Sierra 100's, Sierra 117's, and Nosler Partition 115's all with good accuracy in a Ruger No. 1V in .25/06, 1/10&quot; twist....
