Winchester Lever Action Shotgun Information

Can anyone tell me where I can get information on a winchester lever action shotgun made around the turn of the century (1897 - 1900)?

They are making a model 94 look-a-like in 410 today. I could see a more usefull gun in a 20 or 16 ga.

What I believe you're looking for is the Winchester 1887...it's BUTT UGLY, but it's really fun to shoot: here's a site, cut and paste it up.....

http://www.securityarms.com/20010315.../1900/1969.htm

That's pretty much the only leveraction of the era that was worth shooting, and it's DEFINITELY WORTH SHOOTING!!!

There are replica's available, and occasionally you'll find an original kicking around, they're pretty pricey even for the repros, I've seen one for $300 newly imported, and I've seen originals for $3000.....Go to gunshows or ask around at www.sassnet.com, go to their "SASS Wire" and either the Wire or the Classifieds if you're looking for one.

If you're just looking for a fun old gun, Pump action Winchester 1897's or their repros are readily available from many sources, take down short bbl versions available for as low as $200, they're a lot prettier than the 87's but not really fun to look at unless you've shot one. They're surprisingly faster than the lever actions if you know how to do it, which doesn't really make sense unless you've seen them in action.
