Kimber 1911 handguns
 

Wondering how any of you handgunners out there feel about Kimber's 1911 handguns? Price, quality, durability, accuracy, functionality. . . . Thanks for any and all opinions.

I finally got me an eclipse. Wonderful gun. The smoothness and quality really beats out my colt goverment model, but cost alot more. I believe, I could take a bare bones springfield, and find a good smith to make it just as smooth as a kimber, and just as accurate, but in the end, you would be out 800 to 1000 dollars minimum. I believe the kimber is just as good as a Wilson combat CQ. I know some will yell, or maybe I don't have the experience enough to see the difference, bottom line is both guns will outshoot me.

Too bad, you can't buy them in MD anymore. Refuse the trigger locks. Even can't buy a new Ruger Super Blackhawk in MD new.

Kimbers are GREAT pieces of equipment - you won't be unhappy about owning one...............................UNTIL the bill comes. [:@]

They ain't cheap by no means - but they are excellent quality items.

I was talking to a good friend last night, and he has a Kimber in 45acp. He really likes it, and has shot it a lot. He's the kind of guy that likes the better guns, and says it's been a very good handgun. I'm certain if it has had any problems he would have said so.

He told me it shoots 1-5/8" groups at 25 yards with a handload useing 200 grain Sierra's.

I have a Custom II and an Eclipse would not take anything for either one.

I have two Kimbers. Pro CDP and an Eclipse Target II. Yes, they'll run you a little more cash, but for a massed-produced 1911, they're the best!! The smoothness, the tight tolerances and the accuracy will speak for itself.

Thanks for the postings. I have two Kimber's myself, a Stainless and a blued GoldMatch. I have fired both in Marine Corps matches, they have performed as well as custom built $3000 dollar guns, I feel they are worth every penny. I am with Big Country on the price, if you bought a Springfield and paid to have the same options put on it as the Kimber, then paid to match the accuracy and smooth as slik feel (if possible) you would spend twice as much. I have never fired a Wilson handgun but they do hold a great reputation. I posted this becsue there was a member giving me a hard time about the Kimber's and I felt his claims were un-substianciated, so I posted this question hoping to hear and confirm what I know, they are excellent. I purchased both of mine before the MD dictatorship attempted to ban all quality handgun sales, the first in 1998 and the second in 2000. I wanted to buy the Tatical Pro II and found out that I could not because the Communist Dictatorship of Maryland practically banned new handgun sales by requiring an obscure type of integrated trigger locking device that many companies will not comply with. Showing how idiotic their new law was, the first to produce guns with the lock were the cheap garbage blow-up boxes they were trying to prevent in the first place. I'm just going to have to move out of this Godless shell of a state, getting too crowded anyway, sure it won't be long before they build houses near my range and that gets shutdown so yuppies are not disturbed while reading their evening paper. The one Kimber I'm interested in is a copy of the one they are making for the USMC- can't remember the name of it, but its a Series 1 Kimber- which means it won't be for sale in some states[:@] The only thing that turns me off to the Kimbers is the Series II with the Shwartz safety. I'm splitting hairs on this one I know;)

My Springfield Loaded model runs slick as snot, never jammed on me yet, and is much more accurate than I can shoot it when I use cast lead handloads. Ionly use it for IDPA and IPSC type matches, so accuracy isn't critical- you only need to be able to hit a post card sized target out to 25 yards.

That is the wonderful thing about this country, we all have the right to choose. I have a loaded Springfield I bought just before my state about banned all new handgun sales. I am happy with it for the money and have never had a problem with it what so ever. I think I paid $650 for the Springfield (inflated price because everyone was trying to grab what they could before the BS law took effect), if I remember correctly I paid about $900 for my blued gold match Kimber. For the money I think the Kimber is worth it, their guns are extremely tight, esp. the match guns. The Springfield's action (standard 1911 A1 "loaded") feels "loose" when compaired. A good friend and fellow Marine shoots with me using a Charles Daily 1911 that he bought about 7 years ago for under $300, he hangs right in there. So I know that the gun is not everything.
