Anybody having success with lighter faster sabots
 

I have a Remington 870 with a rifled cantilever style barrell and am in the process of seeing which one of the lighter and faster sabots will shoot the best out of it. Which one are you guys having the most luck as far as accuracy and knockdown power go? I plan on trying the Rem Corelockt.Win Partition Gold,Win Platinum Tip, and the 325 Grain Federal Barnes Exp. to start with. Any others you guys would suggest?

Tried the federal, winchester and the corlok. I had best luck with the corelok, but kept gettting flyers. I would get 2 touching and one 3" high. I only tried 10 shots. Same thing with the Winchesters.

Went back to the 1oz copper solids 2 3/4", and back to 2" groups at 100 yards.

I really wanted the faster work too. I wanted to extend my range to 150 yards.

Maybe it's too early for anybody to be thinking about slugs for shotgun season. Thanks for the reply Big Country. I'll post my results as I try each one. I plan on only shooting one kind each time out or I'll start to flinch. The only one I've tried so far are the win. partion gold. My five shot group was at 3" but the range I was at has there bench set up at about 85 yds.. Honestly, I don't think this is too bad when I take into acount how little I shoot and the fact that an rem 870 is not going to shoot as accurate as some of the fancier slug guns. We'll see how the other three shoot but, after only five shots I wouldn't be afraid to hunt with these.

Well, not happy at all with the Rem Corelok. First three shots grouped at about 3 1/2 but the next two were not even close to the first three. Group ended up being 7-8 inches which is just horrible. My brother tried the Win Platinum tips in his h&r shotgun and had four that grouped about 1 1/4 with one shot that opened group up to 2 1/4 so maybe those will be what my gun likes also. Anybody else test these out?

I also had ok luck with the winchester partitons. But still wasn't my 2" I get with 1oz copper solids 2 3/4". Same as you Ken P, no luck with corlok's either. And remington is advertising you should get 2" groups.

Try the new Remington "buckhammer"s. I get excellent groups (under 2 inches) from my Benelli. You may not get quite all of the speed and range you are looking for but you will get a heck of knock down round.

They are about the same thing as a lightfield arn't they? Buck hammers that is.

I have no problems within 100 yards with 1oz copper solid, but was looking for extra range.

i shot win part golds in 12 ga for the last 2 years. they shot good on paper. i took a nice 8 pointer last year at 10 yrds...... im sure the cheapies would have done just fine at that range. the wins kicked like a mule, though

this year i'll be shooting a .20 and will try a few brands to see what my new gun likes

Third sabot I tried today was the win. platinum tip. Had about a 3" group after first four shots but had a flyer on the last of the five which could have been my fault. Going to try the Federal Barnes Exp. and see which one to go with after that.
