70 and 80 series???
I was looking over a few parts selections for 1911 pistols and noticed some things ask to specify "70" or "80" series.
Can someone please explain this, I don't have too much experience with handguns... |
RE: 70 and 80 series???
The 80 series has an extra safety on it. If yours is an 80 series it should say on the slide.
If not take off the slide and turn it over. Muzzle pointed away from you it may have a small plunger on the left side of the firing pin installed vertically in the slide. If this little plunger is present it is an 80 series. All it is is an extra safety that blocks the firing pin from moving forward until you pull the trigger. You need these specifc parts(like the FP and the linkage for this plunger) because they are cut differently so that this safety plunger is not in the way. |
