25-06 vs 25 WSSM

They have the same muzzle velocity and virtually the same trajectory, but other than that what is the "improvement" in 25 WSSM?, Hard hitter? More accurate?

I just cant find reasons for this caliber, kinda like "If is not broken, dont fix it"

Any opinions?

I agree no use for it . Now if they had made a 25 WSM that would have been something

I don't know about improved accuracy, my 25-06 with factory loads is super accurate. I think it is just hype.

In the case of the WSSM there is some hype but it does perform well in a 6 lb extremely short bolt throw cartridge. No difference I can see with the 25-06 . Had it been put in a WSM case your talking different ballpark

I can see no reason for the WSSM at all...... Somehow I believe new cartridges should offer some edge somewhere.....did I miss something here?

I would love to see the 25 and 6.5 WSM. The only advantage of the 25 WSSM over the 25-06 is for those who really like the short action which does SOMETIMES improve accuracy slightly. Same advantage ,if any, that the 300 WSM offers over the 300 Win or Weatherby Mags. None in my opinion but there are those who would not agree and more opwer to them.

Only edge I see with the WSSM is it is a very short bolt throw and a lightweight rifle .

Honestly, how much weight savings are we talking about anyway? 1/2lb. maybe?

And the shorter bolt throw isn't going to save you any time when that stubby bloated little cartridge doesn't feed smoothly from the magazine.

I think I'd just go with the .25-06, myself. It's tried and true, readily available (and will continue to be for a long time), and shoots just as well as the WSSM in a comparable quality rifle.

And if the .25-06 itself isn't hot enough for you, have your chamber reamed out to .25-06 Ackley Improved and handload some real bore scorchers.

ANd to some that 1/2lb may be an advantage..we have lunatics that pay thousands to trim 1lb from some rifles
