I have a question for everyone. I am a longtime hunter mostly whitetail and smallgame. I hunt primarily in pennsylvania with mountains(by eastern standards, wooded) and rolling farmland On all of my rifles in the past my scopes have all had a regular recticle(crosshairs) I just purchased a tikka 7mm-08 and am going to put a ziess conquest on it. As I was gathering information I Am curious as to what folks like for a recticle design. I am thinking about the german # 4 type with the 3 larger hairs and the one thinner. Can anyone give a recommendation as to type and why they may like it or if there is a design that someone uses and absolutely hates it

I prefer the German No. 4 or a post & crosshair for woods hunting and for fast short-range target acquisition & shooting. For long-range work where you are not as rushed, a plain crosshair or "duplex" is good. The No. 4 should be very satisfactory in PA.

I have a mil-dot reticle that I use for range estimating on my 300rum. On my 25-06, I use an duplex which works good at night because of the thicker wire. I don't have to search for the thin wire in the dark.

I have a 3-9x40 Conquest and the reticle is very easy to see in low light and light you shouldn't be shooting in :) it has the standard Zeiss reticle..

I have an old Leupold with a post and crosshair....I love it but it is a reticle that you cant find anymore, at least not one just like mine. Mine is a fairly fine cross haie with a tapered post that extends about an 1/8th of an " (to my eye anyway) above the cross hair. I have it set with the tip of the post as my dead on at 100 yards.

I would go with the old Reticle 20 (Z-Plex); I am not in to all thoes bells and whistles. Good luck.

Z-plex - I have always preferred duplex reticles for biggame hunting, mainly due to light conditions as it stands out better to my eye. However whatever you like or most comfortable with would be the right choice.

i use the same resticle on my swarovski 4x12x50. it is much easier to pick up and the the target

My first deer rifle had a Redfield scope with the post and crosshair reticle and I really liked it. I can't explain why its not any more popular than it is, maybe its not 'tactical' enough for shooters these days.

I like an NP2DD style reticle but you can't get those on a Zeiss, so not really an option.

Thant being said I have huntoed mostly using a plex reticle...so the z-plex works out for me.
