shotgun question (single shot)

Hello all I am new to the short of shooting, and do not have whole lot of money to part with for a shot gun. (still in college) So any way a friend of mine told me that he thaught that i should buy a single shot shot gun.
So i have narrowed it down to two guns. The first gun is a H&R topper deluxe classic. This gun is only offered in a 12 gauge and can handle steel shot also. The second chose is a stoeger single barrel special.
I do not no which one to go with, also what gauge to get 12gauge 20 gauge.
The H&R looks nicer...

Thanks Matt

I would opt for the 12 ga. It is more versatile. Just my $.02

Spend some time in used gun racks paying special attention to used bolt action guns in 12 Ga. For upland game a 20 or 16 will do fine as well. For waterfown I'd stick to a 12 ga and it'll do fine with upland birds too.

If money is short I'd be looking used.

I agree with vapodog, used is the way to go. If you can find a used pump, you would already be ahead of the game. If it has a full choke, take it to a gunsmith and have them ream the choke out to a modified. Or you could do it yourself with an automotive brake cylinder hone, and a pair of calipers. And get a 12 gauge. It is far more versatile.

When you purchase one H&R Shotgun, you can then purchas any other shotgun barrel they offer, which is quite a few. And most are under $50.

Also, H$R NEF offers a pump action 12g shotgun for under $200. It's called the pardner Pump. I Handled one at Gander Mountain, and it feels pretty nice for the price.
