Marlin High-Power
 

What does everybody think about a Marlin high-power? I'm looking at a model MR-7 30-06 (it's a bolt) and was wondering if anyone else had experience with them? Thanks for any info.

Okay,
I saw it on gunbroker.com and from the picture it looks new so maybe it's a new thing that Marlin's giving a try. I don't know enough about Marlin to know if it will be a decent gun or not. What do you guys think? Thanks

It's discontinued. Marlin introduced these a few years back and after a couple of years production stopped. I guess it's hard to break into the bolt action market unless you've got something special to offer.

WiFAL is right - the Marlin bolt action rifles are discontinued. They are not listed on their website & I spoke with a lady from Marlin who told me they are discontinued. A local sporting goods company has 2 of these rifles on sale for $299.00 with no scope. One is a .270 and the other is a 30-06. I may be interested in the .270. Anybody out there know anything about the quality of the Marlin bolt action rifle?

That's a good price considering these were marketed in the $450 price range. Still, where do you get spare parts when it breaks? I guess that can be said about almost anything old. In this case though you have a very short production period with little investment on the manufacturer's part to work the bugs out of the new product, and there usually are bugs with the first run of anything.

The reviews I read when the rifle was introduced were favorable. As I recall Marlin used the best design ideas of the Model 70 and 700 and put them together on the MR 7.

I own an MR7 and you won't be sorry. It was difficult to break into the bolt market, but I have to say this rifle is made much much better than the others I looked at at the time Rem 700, Win 70,Ruger77 and a few others.

PARTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE AT MARLIN AND BROWNELLS, YOU WON'T NEED THEM THOUGH

The bolt face is Rem 700 all the way 3 rings of steel, the action and trigger are almost identical to Win 70, the magazine drops down on a hinge type floorplate(detachable) like the browning, and the bolt handle ids like the Ruger77, cut checkered walnut stock. Also 3 position safety like Win 70, red cocking indicator,shrouded striker, 5 year Warranty

Very nice rifle, I plan on buying another one when I find it.

one more thing:

They are rumored to be introduced again in the future.

Marlin made a very fine rifle with the MR7, just lacked advertising.

They were marketed at $450??? The people selling this rifle set their reserve at 475!<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> I don't think that I'll be doing that!

When Marlin announced the discontinuance, Bass Pro Shop cleared the MR 7 out at $329. At least that's my recollection.

There's a new MR 7 sitting on the rack of a local firearms store here in town but I don't recall what they're asking for it.

Check around they can still be had for under 400.00
