2 3/4" in 3" magnum?

This is a somewhat noobie question, but i just bought a Remington 1100 12 gauge semi-automatic 3" magnum gun and found that 2 3/4" Winchester skeet and upland shells do not have enough power to recock the slide. Are all 2 3/4" shells going to do this? I want to be able to hunt grouse and pheasant with my new gun but it seems i might not have much luck if my gun cannot reload its self. Any help is appreciated.

You have to use high brass shells, I have trouble with low brass on my 1100

I don't know if this is true of the 1100's, but my old Sportsman 48 (1100's grandaddy) had a ring at the end of the magazine. You had to had to take the nut off the forearm, remove the barrel, turn the ring over, and put it back together for low power loads.

I have two 1100 Remingtons in 3" and shoot 2 3/4 " shells all the time . I don't buy high base shells for them and have never had any problem with cycling . I would suspect the shells could be your problem though unless your gun was just needing a good cleaning .

Some 1100's are size specific. You can only shoot 2 3/4" in that chamber or 3" in that one. At least thats what Remington says on their website. You might have to check with them if yours is size specific.

It all depend on the loads for my gun. My semi-auto will not eject light loads but I don’t have any problems with magnum loads in 2-3/4” shells. It also makes no difference in my gun when using low or high brass shells. They both work the same. I would suggest to try some shells that will be used for hunting. Then you would know for sure.

I have an 1100 in 3" that will only shoot "premium 3" shells. It will NOT cycle regular 3" shells.I have changed the rubber "O" ring, cleaned it, and everything else I can think of.I just shoot premium shells through it.:DBTW I forgot it mainly does not cycle right when it is really cold.Once the gun is shot a few times or the teperature rises it works just fine .Go figure.

I have a Rem1100 "Magnum" that was made in the early 60's. It hates the cheap low brass shells. It will cycle some, but not most.

I guess that's why it says "Magnum" on the side...LOL
