Trap guns
 

Does anyone out there shoot trap? If any one does, what kind of gun and shells do you use? I am realy getting into trap. I have a remington 1100 12 ga. and i use remington STS shells.

I used to shoot alot, but recently I haven't had the time for trapshooting. I've used an 1100, Ithaca o/u, SKB o/u, Ruger red label o/u, and an 870 wingmaster. My favorite was the 870 wingmaster followed by the Ithaca as a close second. I shot Winchester AA's 7/8 ounce load of 7 1/2. I don't know what most trapshooters shoot now for shells, but at the time I was shooting, everyone shot AA's mainly because they were easy to reload and get several loadings out of each shell.

I have recently become very interested in Trap Shooting as well. I use a Verona 12ga. and so far have been shooting either 7 1/2 or 8's . Is that the correct Load? Also what Choke is recommended. Is it possible to have TOO BIG a pattern for trap shooting? I'm currently using the biggest choke I own, but am not hitting a lot of birds. Up close, from our own little thrower I hit 7 out of 10, but at the gun club where the thrower is already 16 yards away I hit only about 25% (11 out of 50). Is my pattern spreading out so fast that it goes "around" the bird rather than hitting it?

Kinghugh....You should find a choke that is tight enough for trap, you shouldn't use ones that spread shot all over the place. Modified or full is the best kind of choke for trap. For shells you should use #8's with 1oz. or 1 1/8 oz. of shot with 2 3/4 dram of powder. Hope this helps

As Ive been gettin ready for turkey season Ive been using my turkey gun choke and all. Only a 3in window and you miss. Im in the high teens to 22. Let one fly away this year. John <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I shoot an average of 200 rounds a week, but when there is tournements i shoot more. I am in the high school leage, a summer leage, and a fall leage. For the high school one i got a gold at state, summer i got a 3rd place tropy, and for the fall i got a team high gun. I love trap!!!
