if you are asking for the least expensive model of the 1911-A1, I would have to say either Norinco or Rock Island Armory. Neither of which I would suggest someone to buy unless it is merely a platform upon which you would build a good gun.
Cheap guns are usually cheap for a reason, like poor machining, lower grade steel, etc.

Hey, I got in my opinion and answered the question:D...I think[:o]

Springfield is probably the best 1911 for your money. They can be had for as little as $379.00 for their GI model and go up from there. They are good solid firearms.

If you can get a Springfield for $379, I say go for it. I personnally bought a Cenury Arms 1911 (which was made in the Phillipines sadly enough) for $359 and not only have I had to replace a few parts already (I have only owned the gun for about 4 months), I am still having feeding problems with every style of ammo I use with it, even after upgrading clip manufacturers as well. Do yourself a HUGE favor and buy a better name brand and think of the money you won't have to spend on crap you shouldn't have to upgrade. That in itself will save you money in the long run!

I would also reccomend the SA. I was fortunate to land a Colt 1991-A1 Series 80 last year, but there was a SA sitting right next to it. I snagged the Colt simply because they are no longer in civilain production. I payed like $549 for mine, USED, but still feel it is a good buy, as the gun has not let me down yet, and has never failed to fire. A wonderful piece of machinery in my opinion. Next on my list will be a PA 1911 style with the 3" bbl and the 6 shot clip vs the standard 7.

I looked at the spring field website the GI version is almost 500. Are you talking about used? Because I might go to Fin and Feather and see what they have used. All I want is a simple 1911. Not all the fance stuff on it.

The prices on Springfield's website are suggested retail price. Not what dealers sell them for. If you can find one, it should be cheaper. I was going to order one, but my wife told me they are all allocated. They don't have many to meet the demand. She works for SA. So she knows whats going on. You might want to try the mil-spec. It's like $80 more, but a lot more gun for the money.

There is however some other entry level pieces here you might be interested in. Happy shopping.

Springfield Milspec or Colt 1991- I've seen quite a few colts in my area, every decent sized gunshop seems to have at least one in stock.
