Default 17 HMR: Savage or Marlin?

I have decided to get a .17. Should I go with the savage or the marlin, in a heavy barrel. Another chioce is a used CZ American with a heavy barrel. Thanks

I have a SAvage with the heavy barrel and while it shoots very well, I don't like the magazine release. It is just awkward and clumsy. The trigger also took some tweaking before it was acceptable, but for the money I guess I can't complain. I have no experience with the Marlin 17 HMR, but I have a 25MN in 22 Mag and I think it is a better rifle than the Savage.

I love my marlin, it's a shooter. The finish on the stainless bull barrel scuffs up easily, but a little steel wool fixes this problem.

I have the Savage FVSS with the s/s bull barrel and it’s a nice little gun. I don’t have any problems with the clip although I’ve had it for a couple of months and haven’t shot it yet. The only reason I went with the Savage was because of the price. The Marlin is also a nice rifle. The clips holds more bullets and the barrel is 1” longer. Other then that they are both good rifles.

I have the Marlin with a heavy barrel. Good little shooter. Trigger is rough, but it'll shoot a quarter size group at 100 yards on a calm day. I figure if I could get the trigger cleaned up, it'll do better.
