Lee rifle?
 

I've heard from a friend of mine that the US Navy once (around 1900?) used a Lee-designed rifle, supposedly a straight pull and using a 6mm caliber cartridge.

Is this true, if so, was it a servicerifle or a prototype?

Does anyone have a good picture or drawing of it?

Or any other related info.

I was told this rifle was probably designed by the same mr. Lee who designed the double-column magazine. I can't find any solid data about this,

They were used around the turn of the century by the US navy, but not in large numbers.

Yes. The Lee Navy was made by Winchester. It is a straight-pull bolt action in 6mm Lee. The .220 Swift is based on a necked-down versioin of this case. This rifle was the one used by the Marine American Legation guard contingent in Peking during the Boxer Rebellion. (See the movie 55 DAYS AT PEKING starring Charleton Heston!!
