Savage makes a youth model in 7mm-08. NEF makes a youth model too chambered in 7mm-08. You could get your wife and daughter their own guns with the NEF and be around your budget.

Thanks guys. I am just waiting to see if they draw the tags. If they do then I will be getting a Savage in 7mm-08, youth model.

I dont think you will be dissapointed with the Savage. Just be sure to use a premium bullet in either 150-160 grains and with a little luck you will be eating some great steaks this fall.

With the .270Win, you can go after anything in N.America save for the largest of bears. Sure, the 270Win can and has killed big bears, but I'd want a heavier bullet, were I to go after a Grizzly. But, for everything else the .270Win has a cartridge that will cleanly take them and at a range greater then what the 7mm-08 can handle. The variety of factory cartridges available for the .270Win is staggering and if you reload, the variety is endless. Add to that the fact that if you happen to be in a sparsely populated county, hunting, and run out of ammo, most every gas station that sells ammo will stock .270Win. Try doing that with 7-08, especially if you are hunting Africa!! Recoil: If the rifle fits you and you mount it properly, you can handle a .270Win.

I live near an army base and the shooters on the range there shoot remington winchester. Anything else will not stand up to repetive shooting.

I'll take a Mauser produced with good steel from around 1915 and build it to a 270 and shoot it until I'm dizzy.......repeatedly.....it'll stand up.

The vangard in 7-08 would be a good choice for kids and women in that price range, or a savage 270. I like the 260 and 257 roberts best for light recoiling hunting gun.
