Thinking about buying an ak just for fun and a little bit of coyote hunting.plannin on gettin one and mounting a scope. I know theyre not very accurate,but just for fun and cheap to shoot.What is the base price i could find one for? Any experience that would be helpful?

An SKS would cost you less and they are a more acurate.

For the price, I agree a good SKS can be had for what a cheap AK can. The more accurate AK's are runnig in the $400 range the last I time I checked. If your dead set on an AK get the Bulgarian one but they are pricey.

I agree on looking towards purchasing an SKS they are really fun to shoot. I realize you can't find a very big scope for one but mine is usually used for varmits and just playing around.

I agree with BigEd....get the Bulgarian Ak. For a little less, the next best AK is the Hungarian one imported by FEG. I think the model is called "SA-85".

Lastly I'd get an SKS, but if it's legal in your state, get the one with the detachable magazine, instead of the fixed 10 rounder. More fun to "spray and pray" just for kicks and giggles out in the dessert/mountains.

By far, the guns are just &quot;stress relievers&quot; for me. I love blastn off a few hundred rounds with those guns. I never do rapid fires with my nice semi autos (AR's, M1A's etc...) That's what the cheap AK's and SKS's are for. Blowing off a little steam at rocks, paper and tin cans....<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>
