Elk bullets
What bullet would you use for Elk out of a 30.06 and why?

RE: Elk bullets
180 gr Nosler Partition. It can be loaded to a reasonably high velocity, and it retains a high percentage of its weight after impact. This is one of the original "premium" bullets, and is still one of the best, performance and cost wise.

RE: Elk bullets
I have to agree with hornetguy! Nosler Partitions are hard to beat for elk..<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: Elk bullets
Nosler Partition,Trophy Bonded Bearclaw,Hornady Interlock,Swift A-frame...just to name a few.All are premium bullets, try several different ones, use whichever groups the best.

RE: Elk bullets
ditto what xtp said.
But I would also add winchesters failsafes bullets to that. brian |
RE: Elk bullets
Barnes X
|
RE: Elk bullets
180 grain Nosler Partitions or Trophy Bonded Bearclaws. Federal makes both in its Premium High Energy ammo line, pushing them both to 2880 fps muzzle instead of the usual 2700.
|
RE: Elk bullets
180 grain nosler partitions or 180 grain barnes x bullets. both have great controlled expansion and retain nearly all weight.
|
RE: Elk bullets
The partition, barnes x,failsafe, swift a-frame and bearclaws will all work fine.If premium bullets such as these are used a 165 gr will work fine and will shoot a little flatter and provide a little less recoil if that is a concern.
