Savage 93GLV-17
 

Picked up a new Savage 93 GLV-17 at a gun show last week. Good prices, $210. Gun Test mag. rated this rifle as a "buy it". I can't wait to get out and shoot it to see how it performs.
I know it ain't as pretty as some of the higher priced 17HMRs out there but I've owned Savage guns before and they were very accurate and dependable.
Just wondering if anyone else owns a Savage 93 and has any opinions on it.

I have a new 93R17 FVSS and I love it!!!!!
It will hold a .500 group or less right out of the box. The only thing I have done so far is a trigger job and added a new Mueller Eraticator 8.5-25x50AO Scope which in my opinion is the best scope ont hemarket for the money. This one is under $200 "NEW"!

Cody, Mounted a Tasco 3 -9X on the savage and took it out on Sunday. Put the first target at 50 yds. to sight it in and got pretty lucky. Was only a few inches off. Got it close to center then fired 5 more shots, all but one touching.
I took the target out to 100 yds and proceded to shoot <3/4" groups.
The trigger was real heavy so I took it home and after cleaning it, took the action out of the stock. I released some of the spring tension and got the trigger down to about 4 - 4 1/2 lbs. Can't wait to shoot it again.

Other than a stiff trigger is this the only complaint you had about this rifle? Also, just how stiff was the trigger? I ask because I have been thinking about purchasing a rifle just like the one you have. The local sporting goods store has some with simmons 3X9X40 scope for 239.99 plus tax. Your reply will be appreciated.

Superpig I know the question wan't to me but I will throw in a opinion. I have tried the savage,remington and marlin 17 hmr's and settled for the marlin for now.The savage was a excellent preformer but it does come with about a 7 or 8 pound trigger and if you buy the synthetic stock (wich I did) the stock is just a tad to short with a little to much drop to really snuggle up and still get your eye where it belongs. The rem. 597 was also a excellent shooter with a nice stock but the clips they use just plain suck. The marlin came with a decent trigger and the stock was better suited for scope use. All three of these guns would shoot .5" at 100 with a cheap 3x9 scope. Just my .02

I also have the 93R17 FVSS with the Bushnell Trophy Silver 3-9x. I haven’t tried it yet but hopefully soon. Nice to hear it’s an accurate little rifle. Just curious, what you use to clean the barrel?

Sorry guys, been busy building a house. Other than the heavy trigger cody, the Savage is great. It ain't the shiniest apple in the basket but it works fine.
Trailer, to answer your question, you have to buy a .17 cal cleaning kit. I got a Hoppe's one with a steel rod when I bought the rifle. It is a 3 piece rod and it seems very strong. I was afraid it might break during cleaning but it is pretty solid. I would really prefer a solid one piece cleaning rod. if I could find one.

Kleen-bore builds a one piece rod. I had to savage 93's. A .17 HMR and a .22 mag. I bought them both at the same time, but kept only the .22. It was more of a test of the two cartridges, and I felt the .22 blew em' up a little better. both were great shooters.
