6.5x55 Swede
I was considering getting a 6.5x55 in a model 70 featherweight left hand bolt. It would be used mostly for deer and mabee moose on occasion, but not often. I live in the bush so a long flat shooting gun would not nessesarily be that nessesary and I cant even see stuff usually past 200 yards. Any comments?

RE: 6.5x55 Swede
Should be fine for deer in the situation you specified, but I don't know about the moose thing.

RE: 6.5x55 Swede
It should be an excellent deer rifle. Not sure about moose though. You can push a 140 grainer at 2500fps, don't have my calculator right now.

I think a good shot, with well constructed 160 grain bullets could handle moose, but I'm guessing...
Any canucks out there with experience using Swede 160's on moose??? eh?? |

The heavier 6.5mm bullets have a sectional density higher than you can get with a 7mm or .30 caliber. In theory, with everything else being equal, they should penetrate better than either of these calibers.

RE: 6.5x55 Swede
Never used it for deer but have used it for moose only once and will never use it again, as a matter of fact I got rid of it right after moose season. Mostly just a preference thing but the rounds are a little more difficult to find up here in the great white north.
