RE: 150 grain soft point

BC I can't see a 150 partition out of a 270 being a problem nor a 140 grain failsafe or a 130 grain Xbullet. All 3 bullets will have plenty of SD and energy/velocity for reasonable range shooting. Let me get this straight your taking your 308 out west and leaving the Rum and 300 win mag home. That would sort of be like going on a date with Raquel Welchs sister when Raquel was available.

Well, I won't say I am leaving at home. Still have it for backup. Last time, that 10lb+ RUM about killed me. I swore I wouldn't drag it out there again. My 308 Medallion is the lightest gun I got. Another guy I hunt with, always kills his elk with a 308win. Gives me a hard time carrying these heavy guns around.

Come on oldelk, you know I will probably buy another gun or three before I go. I am divorced after 10 years. By gosh, I can buy all the weapons I want, or checkbook will allow.

Seriously, after playing around with these tripleX's shooting thru different types of media, I don't think I would have a problem with a 168gr barnes going 2780fps.

RE: 150 grain soft point

I guess my question for both you guys is, with the proper 150gr bullet in a 270win, do you think it is adequate on elk, or moose?
Bigcountry I have taken both critters using a 150 gr Nosler part or 140 Gr failsafe with my 270 win. I will tell you from experience they will get the job done but one must also be able to limit themselves to the effectiveness of this combination. I am not saying you aren't one of those people, but carrying a weapon that is adequate or marginal require IMHO a strict guideline in the other end (or areas) of the spectrum. For me that meant keeping the range at 250 max and good angle shots only. Obviously with the likes of moose or elk bullet choice is paramount for the job, which you have obviously considered and know very well. If I were heading out on a hunt and knew I could keep within the guidelines I have placed and the rifle/bullet combo was up to the task I certainly wouldn't hesitate to pick my poison. However if I thought it may be a chance I will be tempted to stretch that limit and other choices were available to me for that particular hunt or situation I would buy a better sling;) It will boil down to your choice and confidence level for that particular trip. Best of luck!

To the original post, I assume the 150gr sp is for a deer hunt and as always the one that shoots the best will be the best choice. It is more than adequate to handle anything up to black bears as already mentioned. I'd would take a look at the hornady interlock sp and spbt in 150 gr for a deer bullet, I know many guys who use these for deer in an 06'(since i don't own an 06') and haven't heard a complaint. Personally I use NBT or SST for most of my deer hunting needs and just love the results they have given me. However I did use the hornady interlock 150 Gr SP last fall to harvest a wt buck and calf moose, I was pleased and couldn't ask for any better results both on game and the range.

Good Luck
