I use 2-3/4" lightfields in my remington 11-87 rifled/cantilever barrel with great groups, took a black bear this past season with it here in NJ. In my mossberg 835 also rifled/cantilever barrel i use the lightfield 3-1/2" slugs, also great groups. My mossberg 500 and ithaca both 20ga. i use lightfield slugs, and my ithaca 12ga smoothbore i use brenneks.

i havent tried measuring the groups yet i usually just shoot at a paper plate and really well to me is when there all pretty close on the paper plate they all shoot close but as far as a measurment i cant say because ive never tried measuring them my rifles im a perfectionist with when i sight them in but since i dont hunt with slugs often or plan to take any long shots(im usually within 50yds.) i just try and keep it all in the plate and im pretty happy

When you say really well, what do ya mean? I can get 5" groups with 3" mags, but for 100yard shots from a tree stand, that is not good enough for me.

I have a marlin 512, shoot 2 3/4 Winchester sabots. Nothing fancy, but shoots ragged hole groups at 50 yds. from a solid rest. Haven't shot further yet, the range was jammed and the season started the next day.

i use brenneke 2.75 slugs in my winchster model 12/ with a full choke barrel. great groups at 50yds and 75yds.
i have also used rem copper solids in my rem 1100 w/ 21" remington rifled barrel with iron sights. took a 8 point at 10 paces with the older style copper solids.
since my shots are well under 70yds with the shotgun areas i stay with the lead slugs do to the same accuracy at 75yds with iron sights out of my rifled barrel compared to my smooth bore with the older stlye.

Which Brenneke slugs are you using in the Winchester? I've never talked with anyone shooting slugs from a full choke--how's your barrel, and have you had any problems before?

Ithaca 12 ga. smoothbore, Federal 2 3/4 Magnum Hollo-shoks, baseball groups at 75 yards.

Ithaca 12 ga. rifled, Federal Barnes Expander 3" Sabots, touching each other at 100+ yards.

More than good enough when the majority of my shots are 30 yards or less

I've been shooting remington copper solid sabots through my Mossberg 500 20ga. I like them but I am thinking of switching before next year.

We have moved to dedicated slug guns for some years now. H & R Ultra Slug Hunters to be exact. I shoot a 12 gauge deluxe and my boy a 20 gauge standard. Both fitted with 4X scopes.

I have been shooting strictly Brenneke. 3" Gold Magnums when shots might get out to 150 yards and 2 3/4" when 100 yards and under is expected. Groups are tight with both. Knockdown is excellent.

For my boys 20, we found a whole lot of Remington Copper Solids in 2 3/4" at a local department store chain for next to nothing. They were on clearance so we bought all of them at each store. He'll be shooting those for many, many years to come. These also group really well out to atleast 100 yards. We never even tried any other ammo as this stuff shot so well.

Although I am quite curious about these Lightfield's that have a very flat trajectory out to 150-175 yards. Do they really shoot that flat? What are they called? IPS? EXT? ???

aught six..

i have had no problems at all. neither has my father or my grandfather who used to use slugs in that gun ever since he bought it in 66'. it is not a choked barrel ( screw in ) it is just a plain ole smooth bore full. for that matter i have shot slugs out of my rem 1100 28" barrel w a full choke as well and that one has a screw in choke. i know i will get heat from it . but i never had any problems with either setup.

12 ga. Rem. copper solids (sabots) in Rem. 870 rifled barrel. 2 3/4" are more accurate than 3". The deer don't know the difference but your shoulder does.

Wife uses Mossberg 20 ga. (ported) rifled with Brenneke sabots 3".

Both guns are quite accurate with these slugs. Neither has a scope but will always shoot 3" groups or less at 75 yards. Good as these 60+ years eyes will do with open sights.
