Ruger M77 .338 Magnum

Thinking of grabbing one of these guns, they have one for $429 at Sportsman's Warehouse. I read the post about the .338 and have shot one. It's a kicker but I can handle her. What does everyone think of the M77's action and other features? It's stainless/synthetic and I would top it with a Burris Fullfield II with a mil-dot recticle. Any opinions? Hunting elk, antelope, deer, bear, and hopefully moose here in CO.

Great shooting gun in 338 I had the walnut/blue model and it was a shooter right out of the box..trigger was 3 1/2lbs from the factory. You'll not have a problem with any of the 77's or any ruger for that matter. I would ditch the fullfield II and get a new VX-II for that gun.

BigBore,

338WinMag has been called the "magnum for the recoil shy" --- it's a hand full alright but is completely doable by most assertive shooters.

Ruger, I've only had one rifle; however, I've heard the same complaint over and over --- poor trigger and don't adjust well. So if required you are game to put a Timney or something similar into it right away or a bit later then I think they are quite the rifle.

Good Luck and Good Hunting,
EKM

Thanks for the replies guys. I don't mind the recoil at all, and I think I am going to pick it up. I was in the store looking at the new Bowtech VFT and a guy I know who works there summoned me on over. It's a great gun, and I really like the new Barnes Triple Shock for my 7mm, so I would probably load that up in the .338. I will let you know what happens!
