Converting Savage 110 into a 22-250
I was invited to a big prairie dog shooting convention in SD and since I dont really own a good Prairie Dog rifle I was thinking of buying a Adams & Bennett 22-250 Barrel and converting my Savage 110 into a 22-250. The total cost to convert it would be under $200 which sounds like a good budget for me.. Can anyone shed some light on this subject or share any pro's or con's on doing this?
Thanks in advance CB |

Never done it, but seem fairly easy, IF YOU CAN FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!. Don't want to sound like an a$$, but their are some things that have to be done just so or else.
Think about getting a NEF handi-rifle. Can be had very reasonable, comes in a 223 bull barrel and I had heard they were coming out with a 22-250as well. Can put an inexpensive, quality scope on it and be in at or about $200-$250. |

The .22-250 is an extremely fine "dog gun".
I'd bite the bullet and buy an entire new gun. Savage is relatively inexpensive and they have a sound reputation for accuracy. A varipower scope to 12X will work nicely and the Hornady V-Max 50 grain bullets are superb for dogs. Ask the guys you're going with how many rounds of ammo you should take with you. At times I've taken over 2500 rounds of .223, .22-250, .220S, and .25-06.....It's a ball if you get the right town. |
RE: Converting Savage 110 into a 22-250
Many years ago, i use to visit with P.O.Ackley in his shop. I still remember him telling me how he figured that Savage had come up with the BEST way to "headspace" of any mfg he had seen. He was very impressed with the 110's for a good shooting rifle. (He also had great stories to tell!) :>)
I have to agree, Savage is makeing one of the best "shooters" for a decent price, and has been for a long time! How about picking up a new Savage in the cal you want??? Drilling Man |

Your right, the NEF handi-rifle is a very inexpensive rifle but if I'm going to be shooting a ton of rounds would it better to get something other than a single shot?
The Savage sounds good but we are talking a little more money and I just bought a new HMR 17 which should be here tomorrow :D Now you got me thinkin  CB |
