I love to hunt hogs .All across the south. And few places in the east. what gun would take?(legally) where you hunt these big game varmit's. (note) There is only ten paces between you and the hog or hog's.you are hunting. input is greatly appreciated EAT MORE BACON ps: I carry whitworth in 375 H&H seems to work

Last time I went hog hunting and I was told that shots could be close I chose to use a carbine 12 Ga slug gun...3-shot....

At close range that thing is absolutely devastating!!!!

7mm Rem Mag with Winchester Supreme ammo (150 gr). Never had one run off yet. Have a good time.

I use a Win. mod. 94 chambered in the 375 Big Bore for big hogs..
Stops them in their tracks.

I use a 280 Remington with 175 gr. Nosler Partition handloads. This will cleanly anchor hogs that are big. I own 312 acrres of land and lease another 250. We have an abundance of feral hogs. I have taken as small as ten pounds to one weighing 486 on the butcher's scales. Never had a problem when using the mentioned handload. I have also taken several with a 257 Roberts and 117 gr. Hornady BT Interlock.

I used a 270win, but changed over to my semi auto 12ga slug gun with 1-5 power scope. The slug gun has great penetration and is much more handy being short. This is for WV hunting in very thick wooded areas. I know its much different out in CA where I would prefer a centerfire rifle like a 270 to 300win mag. Never hunted them in FL.

I have two Marlins one in 45-70 and one in .375 winchester both would due well on big hogs.

At short range like that I would opt for an open-sighted handgun in .480 Ruger or .454 Casull with a premium or solid bullet. For hunting hogs, especially big ones, in areas where they are typically found in most of the south nothing is as fast or as handy as an open-sighted big bore handgun.

I used a Ruger 44Mag carbine for most of the close in stuff in Hawaii and in the open areas I carried a Rem 722 in 358 Win. Both work flawlessly.

last hog i shot was about 175lbs easily and i shot him at about 75yds. with a marlin 30-30 i was just shooting remington coreloks(sp?) i dont have the box anymore but they were around 150gr. but they destroyed his heart it diddent even take a step just fell right over and when we dressed him the heart looked like spaghetti but now i usually take my 30-06 semi auto

A good semi-auto 12ga. with a rifled barrel or rifled choke tube. Winchester Supreme slugs. This combo will absolutely anchor them. Good luck!

I personally prefer a Marlin 1895 Guide Gun .45-70 with a good all lead hardcast.

A buddy of mine years ago used to use 12ga shotguns, for most hunts he'd use a goose-gun, long bbl with slugs, on other hunts he'd end up using a "Riot gun", tactical shotgun basically, with slugs and buckshot mixed.

I shot a load of hogs each year. We are eat up with them. I use my bow or pistol most of the time. I shot them with a pistol, its a 44 mag. When I use a rifle, I use what ever is handy. I have shot many with a good old 30-06. But have had just as much luck with my 30-30.

I hunt in south Arkansas at Fesenthal National Wildlife Refuge. You can only use a gun that is in season. From October through January, that is a 22 rim fire. We hunt hogs with a 22 mag. I have killed several hogs at less than 10 yards coming towards me. I do not think they were charging, they just happen to be pointed in my direction when they decided to run. I have killed a lot more by shooting them through the base of the ear broad sided. There have been several killed in the 400 to 500 pound range, but most hogs are 225 pounds or less. I said all that to say this, it does not matter what gun you use as long as you can shoot it accurately. I am not recommending hog hunting with a 22 mag if it is legal to hunt with a larger, more powerful gun. I have been at the rifle range and seen people complaining that their 300 mag would not group, only to have the range master set down and shoot a 1 inch group with the owners gun. The owner was flinching from the recoil. You would be surprised how many people can shoot a 30-30 or 260 Remington better than a 45-70, 300 mag or 358. My personal favorite gun when not hunting on the refuge, plain old 30-30. It is light, short, almost no recoil, and very easy to handle in brush. I also like to hunt from the ground with a recurve bow. It has almost no knock down power.
