STIRRIN IT UP I GUESS!!
I guess I am going to stir the pile one more time. But here it is.
I have heard how the Sako hunter rifle or any Sako rifle is better than thos that are made by Rem. .. So today I went to the gun shop to find out for myself how smooth those smooth actions really are. I handled two Sako Hunter modle rifles. One was a Stainless Syn. and one was a reg blued model. Well here is what I have come up with . The actions are NOT smooth they stick about halfway. They feel and sound like a hollow POS. The bolt was not fitted to the chamber. ( It flopped around!!) And last but not least-- I would never give anything close to $ 1200.00 bucks for it. I will stick to my Remingtons thank you. |
RE: STIRRIN IT UP I GUESS!!
Certainly your choice. I got a few Remingtons and a Sako. Neither sits at the top for me. Definitely to each his own.

RE: STIRRIN IT UP I GUESS!!
Well, I congradulate you for going out and trying one yourself. I see so many people take these forums and gun myths as facts. And you my friend have learned a valuable lesson. That 99% of this is pure entertainment and conversation with like minded people. While I am not into Eurotrash either, and think the yuppies idea of "if its the most expensive, it has to be good", or "European products are so much better", I have yet to shoot a inaccurate one. The bolt may feel sloppy while opened, but may be very square and tight when closed.
The kicker for me is the extractor. All of my remingtons these days gets a 110 dollar sako type extractor. I hate that unreliable c-clip remington uses. Either way, glad you went out and made up your own mind, instead of letting a forum do it for ya. |

RE: STIRRIN IT UP I GUESS!!
Well it was'nt just the sloppy bolt that cought my eye . The safety was crap, although the trigger was crisp.
To me it is not what I would want to spend that kind of money on. Leroy. |
RE: STIRRIN IT UP I GUESS!!
I have had at least 25 Remington rifles. Many of them had at least a couple thousand rounds run through them. I have yet to have a problem of any kind with any of them. Certainly no extractoer problems. And no accuracy problems for about one third the price of a Sako. I had one Sako and it was a fine rifle but no better than my Remingtons. I will save the hard earned money and stick to Ruger Savage and Remington with a few brownings thrown in for dessert. And of course by NEF rifles. The ones I have will shoot along side most any rifle costing 2 or 3 times the money.

RE: STIRRIN IT UP I GUESS!!
James, out of all your shooting you have never had problems with the remington extractor?? Have you ever pulled back on a piece of brass that has been neck sized 4 or 5 times and not been able to grab it? I am not saying your a liar, just surprised. Its pretty well known issue. I never had a huge problem until I collet sized my necks. Thats when I decided i needed some more grab.

RE: STIRRIN IT UP I GUESS!!
Sorry but I just have never had any problems with extraction with Remington or any other rifles I have had. When I sold guns for 15 years, I never had a Remington come back or a customer complaint about that. The only rifle I ever got back was a Savage that the scope mounting holes were not drilled in a straight line. They replaced it in a week. I replaced the gun for my customer and Savage replaced the one that was faulty for me. I currently have four Model 700 remingtons that I have had for some time. I replaced three barrels on a Silhouette rifle from Remington and still never had an extracter problem. Lucky?

RE: STIRRIN IT UP I GUESS!!
Thats been my experience with them as well James.....I just dont see all the probs with them. They (700's) fit like a glove and have proven to be idiot-proof as well as dead reliable for me. I have 3 1100's and 2 870's which have produced ZERO probs as well. The most expensive is definitely NOT always the best.
