7mm-08 opinions

Need opinions, Is it alive and well so to speak or is this a dying caliber.. I found a nice gun chambered for this caliber but want to make sure i will be able to find ammo in the future. currently using a 30.06, this gun would be a back up and range gun and maybe used for smaller game.

I don't think you should have a problem, the 7mm-08 is a pretty popular round. It is probably the best whitetail round in my opinion, and it should stick around for a long time.

You're asking a good question and while I'd agree with Rangerlab there's concern for the .280 and the .260Remington as well as the 6MM REm........All are excellent cartridges and all should be far more popular than they are.

If any of the listed cartridges survive I'd make my bet on the 7-08

7MM-08 is my next gun.......I wouldnt worry much about it. The gun seems to have a strong following among those who are familiar with it. I cant figure out why the 6MM Rem hasnt done well....compare it to the 243 and it wins pretty handily.

You should have no problem. The 7MM-08 will continue to be popular, it is an excellent, if not perfect deer caliber!

I have a browning abolt in 7mm-08, LOVE IT. The popularity is deffinitly getting better, it's rare I can't find 7mm-08 cartridges at any retail store that sales ammuntion. I think this cartidge has it all, for whitetails and the like.

7-08 is a good caliber, all the local shops around here have them and ammo, they are really popular.

I have been shooting one for the last 7 years. Had my rifle turned into a full custom about 5 years ago. And made it an ackley improved. It is one bad mutha. Several kills at 400yds. I reload and love the 140xlc in that rifle. Performance on deer is devastating to say the least. Never had one offer to even flinch after the 7-08 put a blue meanie in him. As long as there is 308 brass you can always make it into 7-08. The caliber is great for children and ladies too. As that is the reason it was created in the first place. Mild recoil, flat shooting, and deadly. It is a caliber you can't go wrong with. I recently purchased it big brother. The 280AI. Wanted a little more range. But you can bet I will still pack the 7-08 on occasion.
