Ruger Vs. Remington
OK, I've pretty much decided on getting a .270. Now the question comes about, Ruger Mk77 vs Remington 700. I hear good things about both. Now since im on a limited budget, anyone know approx. prices on either and their thoughts on the two. One of my roommates swears by the Remington, while the other is a Ruger fan...they're not helping me out much. Thanks!

RE: Ruger Vs. Remington
I would go for the Ruger over the Remington any day.
Much much better extractor, one piece bolt vs. multiple piece bolt, Flat bottom receiver vs. a round receiver, integrated recoil lug vs. a seperate recoil ring / lug, three position safety, Integrated scope base, comes with scope rings, Around here the Rugers go for $425.00 to $500.00 or so. |
RE: Ruger Vs. Remington
The Ruger will be priced well below what the Remington is priced if comparing apples with apples. ie all weather SS vs 700 Bdl SS . Used prices show the same difference.

RE: Ruger Vs. Remington
I would have to say that the two guns are both fine. I like the safty on the Remington better. If you could find an older Ruger with the tang safty I would buy it. As for Remington it is the best price in a 700 ADL matte finish with synthetic stock its under $400.00. Do not go cheap and buy the Remington 710!!!

Hahaha I made that mistake on my first gun being the 710, needless to say now im looking for a replacement!

RE: Ruger Vs. Remington
I'm not a huge fan of either rifle, but between a base 700 and 77, I'd prefer the Remington.

RE: Ruger Vs. Remington
I would go with the Ruger , I wasn't happy with the last two Remingtons I bought and have no plans to buy anymore .

RE: Ruger Vs. Remington
I would say ruger.. after going thru this just like you, after looking at the 710. i was completely turned off by Remington. Now, i know this isn't fair, yah yah.. but when i first picked that thing up i could tell that not a whole lot of quality went in to it. I know we are talking about the 700 but i just had that bad feeling.. I think they would both be good, but i would be more partial to the ruger.
However, has anyone had accuracy problems with their ruger? i heard this from someone i work with. |
RE: Ruger Vs. Remington
Ruger makes great firearms, but I prefer the Remington 700 myself. It shoots very well and simply feels 'natural' in my hands. I picked up my 700 ADL .30-06 with a synthetic Skyline Excel stock and Leupold bases & rings for $465 plus shipping and transfer fees (~$35). Whether I'm at the range or in the woods, I have a blast with it.
