.17 Mach 2

Have you seen in the latest issues of certain gun magazines for this new rimfire round?
Is is being touted as the largest un-veiling of a cartrige in firearms history. Several maufactures are collaborating to produce ammo and guns for this "event".
But do we really need anothe rimfire after the .17hmr? What purpose does this do other than to entertain us? That in itself can be a good thing:).
A box of 50 shells will retail for a bout $6-$8, roughly in line with higher grade target ammo. At press time there is not "cheap" ammo expected.
Same .17gr in the .17Mach2 bullet, as in it's larger brother the .17HMR.
I admit, I have a love for the rimfire, but is this going to create a new rimfire demand and upset the "tradition" for the venerable .22LR being the most popular rimfire?

I like the looks of the round. Should make for a fine squirrel round. I won't go out and sale my .22lr's though. I like the idea of bettter selection on rimfires and also like the flatter shooting compared to a .22lr.

It seems like a pretty good idea, but I doubt any one round is gonna make a serious dent on the 22lr. with all of the rifles and pistols out in 22lr, there will always be plenty of 22lr available. And for 6 to 8 bucks u can get 500 rounds of 22.

I've not heard much about this new round. If its a necked-down 22lr to accept the 17gr .17 bullet, I think that its already been tried a few months ago. A ammo manufacturer named Aguila tried this same setup or something very similar to it and it didn't fly at all. I think it was called the .17 Aguila. If I'm not mistaken, I posted a topic about that round on here back a few months ago. Is this "new" round the same thing?

Pretty much. Hornady has already given it's ammo specs to other ammo makers, and a ton of gun companies. T/C, Browning, Winchester, Taurus, Marlin, etc.. etc.. are already getting their guns ready. This is supposed to be the biggest ammo/gun debut in history. With this kind of push I'm sure it will do o.k. They are supposed to hit the shelves in Sept.
