I agree with Bigcountry. There are a plethora of loadings available for both calibers. If you choose to hunt elk or moose there are Federal HE loads available for the 06 that come close to 300 Win Mag velocity.

I like the 06 cause there are lots of ammo choices and you can get them anywhere

I have both and I prefer the 308 because of the shorter action , it has less muzzle blast and less recoil, you can shoot it longer without getting "blueshoulder".....
