RE: .17HMR and Coyotes
There's nothing wrong with buying the .17hmr and limiting yourself to 100yrds or so, every one of them I've seen shoot or owned has shot well enough to make coyote sized head shots at 200yrds off a bipod look easy as pie...Although, I will agree with others about the .22-250 or .223 handi rifle, you can buy a handi-rifle in one of the centerfire rounds for $125-200 new, the heavy bbl version is more expensive, but there's really not much need for the heavy bbl for general hunting by most people, when you get to taking p-dogs or g-hogs at 400yrds, then a heavy bbl is necessary, but then again you wouldn't likely be using your handi rifle for that!
If you like the .17, go for it, it's a great gun, it's got a lot more range and capabilities than its parent the .22WMR, however, it's still a far cry behind the 22CF's.

My first question is what do ya deer hunt with? If your just wantin to kill the yotes and not so concerned about the pelts a good 30-06 is a good bet for a dead yote. Will the 17 do it? yes. I've had my 17 since August, its my prefered crow, groundhog, squirrel and all around plinker. Definately a great caliber. A 22 magnum does a better job of knockin down the yotes. I'm not saying that if the opportunity presents itself that you shouldn't take the shot with the 17. I've killed 8 yotes and lost 3 with my 17. All but one were multishot kills. So between the two, I opt for the 22 magnum for yotes if nothing else is available. If you deer hunt with a 270 or 30-06 and just want to kill yotes then I'd use that over the 17.
