What brake do you recommend???
 

I have a Browning Synthetic Stainless A-Bolt 300 WinMag and would like to put a break on it. I would like to become a little more accurate with my groups and believe reducing the recoil will allow me to be more relaxed and therefore more accurate. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Mag-Na-Port brakes are hard to beat. I had a Mag-Na-Brake on a Weatherby Accumark in 300 Win Mag and a buddy of mine had a Browning Stainless Stalker in 300 Win Mag with a BOSS and mine kicked a lot less. The Mag-Na-Brakes cost about $195, the price includes matching the finish of your gun, they matched mine perfectly.

I recommend the Gentry "quiet brake". www.gentrycustom.com The stainless brake will cost you $165.
The Gentry quiet brake directs the muzzle blast down range away from the shooter.

I used to be a fan of brakes, reduced recoil and all, especially shooting larger magnums. Just noticed now that I'm in my mid 30's that loud sounds are disturbing. Now buy heavier and better balanced magnum rifles with no brakes.

They all work on the same principle, displacing pressure at the cost of noise. If I had to recommend a brake I would say the "Answer Recoil Reduction System" or a Vais brake. Most of the better gunsmiths up my way prefer those.

I have heard nothing, but good things from KDF Slim Line Muzzle Brakes. Go to your local library, and check out a "Gun Digest 2004" or what ever year they have. Under "Chokes & Brakes" they describe different types. If you Mag-Na-Port you are going to loose some velocity, so I would stick to a muzzle brake. Good luck.

There is a difference between having a Mag-Na-Port job done on your rifle and having a Mag-Na-Brake put on your rifle. Mag-Na-Porting your rifle only helps to eliminate muzzle flip, like what you have done to a pistol, the Mag-Na-Brake is a screw on brake.

I'm with 340wthby, I prefer the heavier rifle that holds back the recoil better and less noise. After buying a set of ear muffs I learned it wasn't recoil that bothered me at all it was the blast.

I'm not a big believer in muzzle breaks ,now if want to go with a boss system for a little more accuracy and use the hunting end (non ported) that's ok.
I'm firm believer if you think you need a break you'll never shoot that particular gun well.
My last two rifle purchases both give me one ragged hole with factory ammo.

I use a KDF Brake on my 338 RUM its a recoil killer. But you might look into getting a Limb Saver recoil pad insted of buying a brake. They work very well also. Could be thats all you need. It might save you the trouble and the money.

Just a thought.
