The bolt handles on the 788 Remington are soldered in as well. I had a couple of them come out on me.

Man,James B I wish you had not of said that about the 788's .I got a bunch of them Now I'll think about them flying all to h#$@ every time I shoot one .....[:o]

I have a botl action J. C. Higgins. Mine happens to be a 16 ga. but they made them in 12 as well (at least, and maybe 20 ga. too). The model #'s ranged from 583.13... to 583.23. They were actually produced by High Standard. Is this the model # (or nearly) that your gun has?

Only 12 ga. has the recall. other ga. and models are ok. from what I understand.
