Good scope for night time 'yotes???
Hey all. Long time reader, first time poster here on the forum. I have a friend that wants me to go along on a night 'yote hunt. I have a Savage 110 in .22-.250 w/ a Tasco World Class 8-32x scope. I tried the scope out a few weeks ago during a full moon and full snow cover, but the ultra-fine cross hairs were not visible enough to be effective in the extreme low light conditions.
Does anyone know of some good scopes for this application, or perhaps some special caps that will make the crosshairs stand out better? Any info would be appreciated. |

I couldnt help you on the best scope for nights. I use my regular scopes at night, just need to go out on clear nights with a big full moon. As far as scopes, Id pick the one that has the best light gathering capability. I couldnt help you on the brand, but a good dealer should give you some ideas.
Good luck |

Well, thanks for the suggestion. I figured as much with the light gathering capabilities. I thought that someone might have some experience with illuminated crosshairs or a particular preference in crosshair style, etc. Perhaps night varmint hunting is not so popular. It's all new to me.

RE: Good scope for night time 'yotes???
You need a scope with lower magnification, Larger objective lens & Bigger cross hairs.
The fine crosshair scopes are perfect for long range shooting at gophers & prairie dogs. I have 5-varmit rifles, 3-rifles are topped with 8x32x44mm scopes with fine crosshairs. The other 2-rifles have 3x9x40mm. I have never had a problem finding a coyote or my crosshairs at night with my scope set on 3-power. good luck |

Why not try a scope mounted light with a red lens cover? I've heard that yotes can't see the red light and it will light up your target so you can see the crosshairs. Just a thought!

You need one of those scopes with the illuminating crosshairs. They make em but I don't remember just who.

I night hunted for wild boar in Germany for a few years. Use a 4x12x56 scope with European crosshairs. these will have thick left and right and bottom posts. These are better to pick-up at night. Hope this helps.
