Darn IT!!!!
I took my Ruger 260 to the gun smith today to get a trigger job. All went well until I tried to leave. I felt something grab my arm. I turned and looked and there was a new Synthetic stocked Remington Pump 30-06. It begged and begged until I was forced to bring it home with me. I have been without one for several years and thats my Back-up gun when I hunt in country where big bears live. I always felt good with the Pump Remington with five 220 grain or 250 grain shells in it. The first Bear quide I ever hunted with carried the same gun in the Carbine lenght. I am lining up a Moose hunt for the fall this year.

RE: Darn IT!!!!
Good for you James. I had a 760 in 30-06 that I hunted deer with for years. It was very accurate. I sold it and took up using bolt actions...but I wish I had it back. Isn't that always the way it is when you sell a gun? You wish you had it back.
Hmmmm.....I guess not, actually. I don't want that Weatherby Mark V in 7MM Weatherby Magnum I used to have. Glad that one is gone. Enjoy your new rifle! Clint |
RE: Darn IT!!!!
My first rifle was a 760 6mm. Now that I look at it sitting in the gun cabinet, I guess that I need to get that thing out again. I killed a lot of whitetails with that rifle until I found a new weapon of choice. The problem is that I keep finding those "weapons of choice" all the time. I guess that I am not the only one!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Darn IT!!!!
OHHH! I hate it when that happens, but not as much as the wife:D
Oh well, somebody has to get those poor lonely rifles out of those dusty old gun shops and give them a home. Thanks for doing your part, Enjoy. Wes |
RE: Darn IT!!!!
Good luck with your new rifle.

RE: Darn IT!!!!
With my bad left shoulder, a pump is the only thing I can really work well. I have Arthritis in it and have trouble getting the gun up and down from that shoulder. I can work the pump well though because I am right handed but have no right eye.(Lost it in a construction accident). I can't work a left hand bolt very well any more because there is no strenght in that arm when I raise it to that level.I can work a right hand bolt by reaching accross if I am shooting off a bench or bi-pod to support the weight of the rifle. Its hell to get old and beat-up. I am not about to give up shooting and hunting until there is just no way to do it any more.

RE: Darn IT!!!!
Hi James,
Bushwhacked again.....huh;)? Them danged old "back shooting" guns! I had a 760 Carbine length .30-06 for many years. It nearly always was in the truck when we lived in Alaska. I kept several magazines along with a box of good 220 grains. I never felt seriously at threat when out moose hunting in big bear country. (If I were going in by ATV with the gun boot the SS Ruger in .338 Win Mag went......but many of my workday morning or evening "hunts of opportunity".....(ie. got a few hours.....a good opportunity for a hunt:)).....were made with that 760. It was the "always along" gun! Great combination.....760 and .30-06! Have fun! Dave |
RE: Darn IT!!!!
Now I will have to clean off my reloading bench. Right now it looks like the city dump. Since I finished reloading for last falls seasons it has become a catch all. I have the good fortune to have four new unfired rifles to load for. I went quite a while without buying a new gun but the last six months I have been on a roll.:D My son was going to sell his Browning A bolt Salker to buy computer gear so I bought that. Its a 308. Then I found the Ruger all Weather 260 and the 7MM-08 Scout rifle. Last but not least the 270 WSM I will have to quit for a while noiw. Restock the piggy Bank.
