Ruger Trigger
 

I called a Gunsmith today to see what he would charge to clean up the trigger on my new Ruger all Weather that I got several months ago. The pull weight is not bad but man does it have a case of the creeps. He says he can usually get them pretty good and charges 25 to 40 dollars depending on the time it takes him. Has anyone had this done to thiers and how much did it help? The other option is about 125.00 and includes a new timney trigger adjustable from 2 to 4 lbs.

James B ...........A friend of mine has reworked a few of my M-77's triggers.. They came out nice.No creep and break around 3-3.5 pounds.Not to start a new discussion.This same guy tried a Timney trigger and he wasn't impressed with it.I've never tried one so you might say it's hear say.If this smith is competent I think you'd be better off having him rework it.

I have a timney trigger in my 6.5x55 mauser and its great. I do however not really want to replace this one. I think The guy is pretty good. He is a small town Smith and I never heard anyone complain about his work. Thanks.

I did my own trigger work on both my Rugers and without bragging I can honestly say they are 100 % better now than they were. No creep and quite a bit lighter.

Sounds good. However I can take something apart with only two pieces and put it back together wrong. If it was wood I could do anything with it. When it comes to mechanics, my wife is much better than I am. I won't take anything apart unless her or my youngest son is there watching me. I can build a house or something in a heartbeat but put a new gas grill together??? Forget it.

I have done a couple and its not that hard to do ,but for the $20 that the gunsmith charges , he's more than welcome to it . Some of the model 77's I have came with adjustable triggers . I just paid $62 for a Model 77 Mark II trigger because I wanted it to be adjustable .

I do all my own triggers if possible but most of my rifles are Remington's and aren't that hard to do. The only Ruger i have is a 10/22 so i don't have a clue as to adjusting the trigger on a Ruger. If i don't soon find a Remington chambered in 260 then i'll soon be the owner of a new Ruger and i'd like to learn more about the trigger on one myself. I'm fortunate to have a friend who is a good gunsmith but i like to tinker so i try to do my own work. Having said that let me add that i've been to his house on more than one occasion with a gun and a bag full of parts for him to put back together.:D As for the Timney trigger i installed one in a Remington Sendero and found it to be a very good trigger. I don't like changing trigger's out but sometimes you have to in order to get a trigger that you're comfortable with. If the local guy you spoke of can adjust the trigger that's the route i think i would take and that seems to be a fair price for the work. Good luck.

James ...I had the trigger adjusted by a gunsmith on my 77 all weather in 7 mag... had it set to 3 1/2lbs and it is a fine trigger job but has just the slightest hint of creep which I don't like... I would bring it back to him but he is a bit of a distance from me and has a serious backlog. I did a Timney last year on a 77 RSI i owned and it was crisp..as crisp as any trigger I have pulled only pain was filing down the safety to make everything fit...I am going to order the Timney for this one if I end up keeping it.

The Ruger trigger can be improved a great deal, but I find them harder to get an "acceptable" trigger on than most of the other "name brands", Winchester, Remington, etc.

I left mine with the gunsmith today but it will be a while as he was going in for surgery this afternoon and figures it will be a week before he can get back to work and then another week or so before he can do it. Well I don't need it for a while. Its gotta warm up here before I will be out shooting.
