9mm vs. .38 Super
What's better as a defense round in your opinion? I see that there is now very good high performance ammo from Cor-bon, loading .38 super in +P configurations. I would think that 'super is a better round than a 9mm???? What do you think?

RE: 9mm vs. .38 Super
If your comparing bullets of the same weight the 38 super has a slight edge but nothing to get excited about in my opinion . I used to shoot a friends quite a bit and own two 9mm's myself . Its a very popular round in mexico where he is from .

RE: 9mm vs. .38 Super
I have carried both for work & off duty ( I use Glock Model 23 40's now, one Dept issue & one mine). I've never had a problem with 9's. I like the readily available & affordable practice ammo, and the wide variety of work loads. My favorite work 9 was a Beretta 92F. Spent quite a few years carrying a Colt Lightweight Commander in 38 Super with a Bar-Sto barrel. It was accurate, reliable, and with Silvertip 125's, roughly had the same oomph as the 357's carried by others on my department. I could accurately shoot 3 mags in the time it took them to shoot a 686's cylinder dry and start to load another, though. That was the beginning of the end for revolvers on our agency. To be honest, were I looking at a new carry gun, I would go straight to the 40 S&W caliber, THEN look for a gun to wrap around it...

The 38 Super does have a slight edge over the 9mm.For the difference in price of ammo I would stick with the 9. I perfer a S&W 40 cal over both rounds mentioned.Ruger Redhawk
