223 rem 1-9'' twist
Looking into predator hunting fox/coyotes. Ive heard great reviews on savages and was looking into the Savage 10fp in 223 wiht a 1-9'' twist. So my question is what is the lightest/heavist bullet this rifle will stabalize for good accuracy?

It'd stabilize anything from 40 grains up to I'd say about 70 grains, but the best shooters would probably be in the 55-62 grain range. One of the things to watch out for with lighter .224cal varmint type bullets, in fast twist barrels, is the possibility of driving them so fast that the centrifugal force on the jacket causes the bullet to expand and tear itself apart in flight. Many of these bullets are designed to stay together with the more standard 1-in-12 rifling. The heavier bullets shouldn't be a problem because the velocities are lower.

Two bullets I've had blow up in mid air are the Hornady SX and the sierra blitz (both 50 grain)....Speer's TNT however seems to be able to tolerate the faster RPMs |

my Bushmaster is a 1-9 twist. The folks at BM in the technical support room suggested bullet weights of 45-75.
Mine really likes the 50 grain Nosler ballistic tip BT. Loaded with 24 grains of IMR-3031, Winchester brass, CCI 400 primers, and an OAL of 2.235. Results; sub MOA out of an AR15 |

I really like the 55gr hornady V-max. Great coyote bullet.

Thanks for the replys. Will I lose much, if any range hunting coyotes with say a 55 gr load? 300 yards would be as far as i would want to shoot. And that range would be uncommon I imagine.

Your .223, 1-9" twist and 55 grain bullets will tip over coyotes all the way to 300 yards.....but you're coming to the end of it's practical range now
