10/22.
With factory sights, can't do wrong.

My .22 is a Browning Buckmark semi-auto pistol. Fairly inexpensive but shoots well and seems to be very durable.

I never actually owned any 22's until last year!! Always borrowed. Now I own a Marlin 60 tube-fed semi-auto. Couldn't be happier. I threw a Bushnell scope on it and like Herman_and_bill stated, it drives tacks and puts squirrels on my grill.

I like my 10/22, but my wife loves it. It's basically the first gun she's shot, and now she wants to shoot it all the time.

I like older remington bolt action 22's- 541's and 581's which are incredibly accurate. For handguns, I like the Ruger MKII target models. I've shot 10/22's before but never owned one- they are an extremely fun way to burn through a few bricks of ammo. Had a Rem 597- piece of crap jammed every few rounds unless I cleaned it constatly while shooting it- so it really didn't have a fun factor for me.

My favorite was a Winchester pump gallery gun. Hex. barrel, hammer, only shot shorts, made around 100 years ago--xtremely accurate. Worst 22 is a Marlin 25mn,22 Mag. It won't shoot 2 inches at 50 yd., and I have but a lot of money into this rifle.

My favorite was a Marlin bolt action that I bought from my Uncle in the early 60's. It originally belonged to my father who bought it in 1940. I spend many hours out in the pastures and in the woods learning to shoot and hunt. The thought of the Marlin brings back many good memories of the past. I wish I still had that old rifle.
