Slug Barrel for 870 Express L-H

I am considering purchasing this gun, but I am having trouble finding a left handed slug barrel for it. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Remington doesn't show one on it's web site.

I have never owned a lefty gun before, but at the insistence of buddy's I have decided to give one try. Does the receiver orientation not make a difference? Is a barrel a barrel?

I think a barrel is a barrel is a barrel. No difference in RH vs. LH. Try e-mailing the company site and asking.

i am no expert or gunsmith, but they would have to be different.if you look at the barrel when it is taken from the receiver, the rh has the slot for the ejector on the right side.a lh would have to be reverse of that.the barrel cannot be turned over,it is designed to throw the shell out the right side.the bolt, barrel and receiver would have to be reverse.the stock and forearm would be the only interchangeable items i think.;)

Hey Sagittarius62...

Small world! :D I have a lefty Remington 870 also. Fantastic shotgun, ain't it? [:-]

Remington, Cabela's, etc.... don't show the lefty slug barrel for the 870. BUT you and I are both in luck, as the company Hastings makes the slug barrel in a lefty version for the 870.

Try this link: http://www.tjgeneralstore.com/hastings.htm

Try Hastings company, direct.... http://www.hastingsbarrels.com/

The scope mounted 870 Express LH barrel is a hot commodity and is out of stock. But the standard LH rifle barrel is in stock.

Hope this helps!!

Thank you everyone for your replies. ButchA, I will look into the Hastings after market barrels. They seem to be the answer to the problem.

I dont see why a right handed barrel wouldnt work. I have one for my 870 right handed gun and it is awesome. You'll love it!

The 870LH has the ejector port on the other side. The barrel sleeve, lock/tang gizmo, is completely reversed on the 870LH.

Trust me... A righty 870 barrel ain't gonna work in a lefty 870! [:o]

I put a Hastings rifled bbl on my lefty 870 Express this year. Topped it with a Bushnell Red Dot and I have a nice deer/bear killer to 100 yds. Got the bbl from TJ General Store on the web.

Are you planning to strictly use this shotgun for slug hunting, or did you also want to have a smoothbore barrel for wingshooting? Although a little more expensive, the Browning BPS may be a better choice for you. (http://www.browning.com/products/cat...asp?value=011B) I also shoot left-handed, and although I already own a couple 870's, I was considering picking up a BPS myself. It's not a true southpaw action, but the top-tang safety and bottom-ejection works great no matter how you shoot. The Deer Hunter model is already equipped for slug hunting, but is one of the more pricey models. Since the action is ambidextrous however, you could purchase a separate rifled barrel for a cheaper model, and be able to use it for pretty much anything you want to shoot at. Good luck, you can't go wrong with the Browning or Remington.

The end of this story goes like this. After seeing the hoops one must jump through, the limited options, and increased cost, I have decided that the switch to left is not for me. I have shot lefty with right handed guns all my life, and have done just fine. I will continue to do so. I thought the 870 Express with the addition of a slug barrel would be a good set-up that would be versatile and not cost a fortune to switch hit with. Thanks to everyone for your help and information. Peace.
