Any factory loaded 150 grain soft point will do a good job on deer. For factory loads I always favored the WW 150 grain Silver Tips.

seems im an odd ball who pays 20 some bucks a box for my bullets.....federal premiums...either nosler ballistic tips or sierra spbts in federals high energy load......thats what i used this year....not a
s explosive as i like....but it anchored my deer hard...seems it did better farther out there...i shot one about 100 through the lungs and it fell rear end first....never knew what hit it.....the close one was 25 or 30yds i had an opening where her heart was.....i sent the bullet through that little hole right through her heart....she went 60 yar0ds or so running into trees and everything on the way......blood trail was massive and not needed being i seen her hit the last tree and fall over......ive also used sierras 168gr
hollowpoint boat tails......they act like ballistic tips but seem to shock a little better and drops em good and fast.....but i cant find them loaded and had them handloaded last year...worked great.....the federals me and dad shoot are 165 grs......our shots are usually 30 yards or so so we like an explosive bullet so we know it will open....but i choose premium bullets so i know they will stay together better at such a close range and high velocity.......

buy 2 boxes of cheap ammo to get the gun on paper, then buy a box of several different loads. If all you want to hunt is deer then 150-165 gr loads will do just fine. I personally like Hornady bullets and have found their factory loads to be very consistant. Federal also has quite a selection. You'll have to see what your gun likes best.

Your primary concern (I hope you agree) is to make an accurate shot. Thus you need to let your rifle tell you which bullet/load it shoots best. Spend a few dollars and purchase several brands of ammo having the bullet weight (150, 165. etc) you want. Then shoot 3-5 round groups with each brand. Might clean the barrel and shoot some more groups. It will become obvious which bullet is more accurate in YOUR rifle. Once you settle on a brand/type and grain bullet, you could even return to the store where you bought the first box and get 4-5 more having the same lot number. Then you will have sufficient rounds to last you for YEARS (shelf life on todays modern ammo is many years if kept in a controlled environment). It doesn't matter what another person shoots out of their gun. Every gun is different, and you need to know what flys best out of yours. It will take a little time, and a little money. But at the end of the day, you will have the confidence and the knowledge to take the shot. Isn't that what you want?

My ought six likes anything,But it shoots 165 gr federal nosler ballistic tips best. .7 in groups @ 100 yds 1-1/8" groups at 200yds. 150 gr rem corelokpsp works great and will flat drop one in its tracks. I found the rem not to group real well out past 250 yds. Thats when I would shoot the 165 noslers.
