222rem

wondering if the ammo is hard to find and expensive for the non reloader?

Shouldn't be too hard to find ammo. If it's the 222 Rem Mag, then it gets tough. The plain old 222 Rem is pretty common and it's not very expensive. We have a 222 Rem and I reload. I don't bother reloading for it, though. I find it just as easy to buy a box here and there.

depending on the collectibility of your .222 it don't take much to run a .223 chambering reamer into it

However, the .222 is a fine cartridge "as is"...Ammo is widely available but certainly not as available as .223

I have a .222 and like the others said it is pretty easy to find and rather inexpensive ($8-11/box)

Unless you're talking about a rifle you already own, I'd go with a .223. Slightly better performance and you've got more factory load options.

its a good gun too. shoot one of them before also. but i jus bought a 223 because shells are cheap. 10 bucks for winchester holopoint. perfect for yotes. but if i wana do some gopher or parrie dog shootin i can buy a box of cheaper ammo for like 4 bucks a box.
