Factory .223 accuracy
I recently bought a Rem 700VS in 223. I'm not getting the accuracy I expected . Groups are about 1 1/2 in at 100 yds . I expected about 1/2 that. Does the round really matter that much at such a short distance. If not then its probably just me.Id be willing to admit that I still have alot to learn.........thanks 1B

RE: Factory .223 accuracy
Try a different factory load with a different weight bullet. Guns are picky when it comes to ammo. Quite a bit depends upon the weight of the bullet and what your barrel twist rate is. Try a few different factory loads and see which the gun likes best.

RE: Factory .223 accuracy
1BUCK, I bought a new 223 a couple years ago. I was getting 4" groups at 100 yards with PMC ammo. I switched to the inexpensive Winchester ammo and got 3" groups. Then I shot Rem Core-Lokt's and got 1" groups. I can live with that.
I've heard good thing about Black Hills (?) and I'm going to try that next. GOOD LUCK! |
RE: Factory .223 accuracy
If you are using factory loads you may never see the true potential of your rifle.I used to own a howa varmint in .223 that shot 5 shot groups under 3/4" all the time with it's favorite loads with many in the 1/2" range. With factory loads the groups were often 1" or more.

RE: Factory .223 accuracy
Try "Black Hills" .223 ammo. Considered just about the best and most accurate factory ammo around. It comes in a blue/black colored box. Ask your local gun/ammo dealer. It's easy to get, if they don't already stock it.

RE: Factory .223 accuracy
I just bought a Howa 223 this weekend, I shot 1/2 groups with the Black Hills 52 gr hollow points. They shoot good. My cousin had the same results in his new ruger 223 with this same ammo.
