What scope mounts would be the better choice

Would raised see thru mounts or flipover mounts be best for a 308 pump, 7600, for deer hunting in Pa and West Va., primarily wooded, possibly a quick jump shot. I have a fixed mount 3x9 and it is going to get changed. Thanks for any help or suggestions.......

Sounds like you should be getting a 2 1/2x forget those flipover mounts or see thru they are nothing but problems

Totally agree with oldelk. I had see thrus for years. I feel it only causes confusion and bad habits. besides that its not near a solid connection. Get a low power scope like a 1.5-5.

absolutely concurr

You might want to ask if you really want a scope at all for the woods gun.

Vapodog you are absolutely right . I dont want a scope, but occasionally I need a scope, so now what.? I have a high mount scope on my 06 and a flipover on my 30-30. still undecided...

With a quality 3-9 mounted properly and carried on 3X, you should never have any need for see thru mounts. Practice and learn how to find things in your scope and it should become instinctive.

I haven't seen the Flip Over mounts & rings in years. I doubt if they are even made any longer. As far as See Thru's. If I had to use the See Thru's or no scope at all I would go without a scope. The See Thru's are nothing but trouble. They sit to high to begin with, they are made of aluminum extrusion. The slightest bump and your scope is knocked out. I have a gunsmith friend who has a wall full of them he's taken off customers guns. They might be alright if they were steel which I have never seen steel S.T.'s. Do what you think but I assure you you'll regret the See Thru's.

Forget the see through or flip over mounts as both are nothing but trouble.I would go for a low powered scope such as a 1.5x5.A low powered scope is faster than open sights for an experienced shooter.

Ron,
OldeElk seems to know something about woods hunting. I agree with him 100%.
You may want to consider a Leupold 1x-4x variable. It's no bigger then the fixed power 2.5 scope.
