New scope, need opinions
 

I currently have a Simmons 3x9 scope that came with a rifle i just purchased. Eye relief is about 3" or less. This gun is a 3006 and would like more eye relief and a little better scope. I don't want to spend to much money but can you give me opinions on a good scope for a reasonable price?

A good reasonable scope is the Nikon Monarch 3-9x40. Very Bright and clear scope. You would not be disappointed in its performance.

Luepold vx-ii 3-9x40 generous eye relief and the lifetime warranty is awsome.

Except for the friction dial adjustment rather than the click system, I really like my VX-l. It was 199.99. The rifleman it about 10-15 dollars cheaper. I also love my Swift 3x9 they run about 100-120. bucks.

For less than 200 bucks the best scope out there by far is the Bushnell 3200. One piece aluminum / titanium alloy tube, multi coated optics, rain coating, click adjustment, fast adjustment eye piece, lifetime warranty.

Those Nikon Monarch's are hard to beat, as are the Bushnell's, the Nikon would be my choice between them. The Leupold are good scopes with great warranties and customer service, but there optics are just a hair behind the others in the lower price range.

Savage rifle by chance? The Simmons that I had on my old 22-250 was junk! I took it off and put a tasco 6-24 on it and shot the hell out of it. Liked the scope so much that when I sold the rifle I put the original scope back on it. The Tasco is on the new Savage w/ the accu-trigger. Awesome combo.

As for the question, I'd go with the leupold VX-II. I have on on my .338 that is crystal clear. Held zero under alot of firing b/4 season and did I mention its very clear!:D

Seems to be the age old story with new setups. Its always the right gun but with a poor scope that really needs changed to get the most potential out of the new rifle and its accuracy. Thats why you hear over and over again as I did that alot of people put as much money in the scope as they do the rifle. Thats the importance of it. I, however, don't quiet go that large but I have learned that this advise is true and have began to put better optics on my guns to begin with. If I don't have the money for one at the time but the rifle is a good price, then simply get the rifle, put it away and wait till you do have the funds for the scope and then pull it out, scope it and go to work. I have found that this is the only way to truly be satisfied with your set up and know what is working or not. Hope this helps.

I use a bunch of old Leupolds that were made before they started putting click adjustments on them, and have never noticed any handicap at all from the friction adjustments!
