Extra Room in the Bore?????

Thanks for the headsup on the capital letters screaming thing . I was cleaning the bore out of that ole model 788 Rem. I got in .308win. and noticed that with the brush on it felt looser or should I say smoother. Nah I think looser than my 30-06 or my other .308win. However, when I use a bore light and look down the bore it looks in great shape. The rifling and all looks very good. Do you all know why this may be??? Thanks

Whitey

Could be your brush is worn out, or maybe you grabbed the wrong one? It is really hard to wear out the bore of a rifle.

I know there are different brands of brushes and such, but this brush was pulled right out of the package brand new. It was made by " Outers " Thanks for more information.

I used to use Outers bronze-phosphor brushes, but they did tend to wear out faster than I'd like. And if you get copper solvent on them, not only do they wear down even faster (starts to eat away at the bronze), but they also foul up your bore.

Now I'm a bit of a clean freak, and I scrub the heck out of my bores when I do a lot of shooting at the range. But I've been using Hoppes brushes and they stand up a little better in the long run.

I'd trust that the bore is fine a lot sooner than I'd trust the brush is fine.

Just get a new brush and get on with it.
