RE: My Rifle Is Complete !!!!!!!!!!!!
The only thing missing is a sling for carrying it while looking for the next record whitetail in your state! :-)
Good luck with it, let us know how it groups at the bench! |

Maybe its not complete, can you recomend a sling ?
|
RE: My Rifle Is Complete !!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not familiar with any sling brand names, but make sure to get a nice wide padded sling. Sure makes it more comfortable to carry than those old thin leather slings.

I think that you're nearly ready to rock. I bought a Remington700 ADL in 270Win back in 1967. Still one of my favorites and a very accurate rifle.
Good luck with it. |

You have made good choices. I have 2 Nikons, and they are good scopes for the money.I also think that for whitetails the 270 is a fantastic caliber.
Good luck and Good Shooting |

Im waiting for a sunny day to sight it in. The last 3 months have been freezing with snow or rain.
As for the sling, Im not sure to get one of those foam jobs, or rubber fat ones, Or nylon. Does the rubber/ foam stuff break apart ? |
RE: My Rifle Is Complete !!!!!!!!!!!!
Ditka, The type of sling is your preference. Whatever feels comfortable to you. I use a Nylon 1.250" Military sling.I don't carry my rifle that much by the sling. Usually when I do it's cold and I have a jacket on for padding. The wider slings are allot more comfortable then the narrow ones. If you plan on carrying it allot and in warm weather get a wider one.About the Foam Rubber,I'm sure in time it will disintegrate.I feel safer using Nylon. It's durable ,strong and dries fast. I mainly use my sling to pull the rifle up & down while I'm getting in and out of my Climber. There are several makes and models to choose from. It's up to you to see which one fits your likes.I agree that you should get some Flip up scope covers.Check some of the shooter's supply catalogs.Ruger Redhawk

RE: My Rifle Is Complete !!!!!!!!!!!!
Question on flip-up caps on scope, what side do I place them ? I ? So the lid goes to the side or straight up ?
|
RE: My Rifle Is Complete !!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Quilly that's the nicest thing you ever said agreeing with me.LOL.Ditka you get the Flip Up covers for the Eye Piece and Objective. Each end takes a different number. They slide on the scope and the hinged part faces straight up.When it opens it pops above the scope and not to the side.I get allot of my supplies from
www.midsouthshooterssupply.com or call 1-800 272-3000 You can get a catalog and find what you need it there.Ruger Redhawk |
RE: My Rifle Is Complete !!!!!!!!!!!!
I have used a butler creek neoprene sling that stretches for several years. The stretch makes the gun feel lighter and mine has shown no signs of falling apart.

RE: My Rifle Is Complete !!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought some leather www.twleather.com and made my own sling and recoil pad for my 30-30....It not really a recoil pad, i mad it so it could conform to the stock of my gun and so i could attache the sling to it so i did not have to drill into the stock. If u get a soldering iron and some of that leather you cna cut a strip and burn your own designs into it. Then get some leather stain and finish it off. it adds a nice custom touch to ur gun
