RE: Remington model 788??????
My cousin just called minutes ago and needed $$ so I bought a Marlin 1894 in .357 and a 788 in 7/08 .. both with scopes .. The marlin is in nice shape but the 788 needs the stock to be redone .. but I guess I couldn't go wrong with $300 for both ..Bill

RE: Remington model 788??????
My father purchased a 788 in .243 back in the late 70's for $169 canadian and that included a cheap 4x tasco scope and mounts. He sold it in 2000 for $350canadian.He was happy to have used the rifle for over 20 years and still sell it for more than double what he paid for it.

RE: Remington model 788??????
RonM,
Just had to reply about 760 price and that of a 788. In l973 I bought a new 760 for $85.00 and the same gun shop gave me a price of $78.00 for the 788, I believe it was in l973 also, could have been a little later.

RE: Remington model 788??????
Hi usens,
The Remington Model 78 Sportsman is NOT the same as a 788. The Model 78 was a "less expensive" version of the Model 700. If memory serves me correctly......it had a birch stock....instead of walnut. The polish and finish...were less well executed compared to the 700. But it in no way diminishes the Model 78 when it came to performance. The Model 78 was just a 700..."in an ugly dress"! It is a good rifle.
